Hazewatch: Smoke Gets in our Eyes

The SIIA has been analyzing the causes of the haze since the 1997-98 episodes, and has advocated for changes in policies and laws to address the issues. At the peak of the haze crisis in September 2006, the institute embarked on a strategy of organising a series of roundtable dialogues/forums involving government and business leaders, NGOs, and local, regional and international experts to urge greater cross-border collaboration and advocate for finding effective solutions to the problem.

Part of the SIIA’s Programme on Transboundary Haze Prevention, which seeks to sustain a policy and public advocacy focus on the haze problem backed by research and analysis, the Haze Advocacy Watch is a regularly updated log of various efforts by national bodies, NGOs, and concerned community groups to prevent the haze.
