SUMMARY:[Closed-door] ATTS focus group on Strengthening ASEAN’s Energy Security and Regional Economic Resilience
DESCRIPTION:The ASEAN Think Tanks Summit (ATTS) workshop on “Strengthening ASEAN’s Energy Security and Regional Economic Resilience” will address the following issues: \nThe virtual FGD will examine the implications of external energy shocks on ASEAN economies and assess the effectiveness of existing regional energy cooperation arrangements. We will explore key vulnerabilities and implementation gaps across areas such as regional emergency coordination\, information-sharing\, stockpiling\, cross-border energy interconnectivity\, regional energy trade and supply diversification. The discussion will also consider the links between energy security\, critical supply chains\, carbon neutrality and macroeconomic resilience\, as well as opportunities to strengthen institutional coordination\, infrastructure financing and cooperation with ASEAN’s external partners. Through collaborative dialogue\, we aim to identify practical short- and medium-term priorities that can strengthen ASEAN’s preparedness\, regional interconnectivity and economic resilience. \nThe discussions from this workshop will be presented at the 3rd ATTS for further deliberations. The ATTS is an annual Track 1.5 dialogue held at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta\, organised by the Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA)\, the ASEAN Institutes of Strategic and International Studies (ASEAN-ISIS) network\, and other think tank partners. Insights from ATTS workshops held throughout the year will be incorporated into the 3rd ATTS policy memorandum to be circulated to the ASEAN Secretariat and the Permanent Representatives of ASEAN Member States (AMS).

SUMMARY:[By Invite Only] Strengthening Fire Prevention and Haze Mitigation: A Multi-Stakeholder Dialogue
DESCRIPTION:The 2026 mid-to-year end dry season in ASEAN could be longer and more intense due to El Niño and a possible “positive” phase of the Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD)\, increasing the danger that forest and peatland fires could spread and cause haze.   \nThere is a growing need to closely monitor developments and strengthen fire and haze response efforts for the remaining dry period and ensure that fire management capabilities are maintained in the years ahead. While notable progress has been made over the past decade in fire prevention and haze mitigation\, more can be done to share information\, strengthen resources\, and build capacity in the region.   \nThe dialogue\, held in Jakarta\, Indonesia\, will bring together government\, the private sector\, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) to share current best practices on fire management\, identify gaps in implementation and coordination\, and explore opportunities for stronger collaboration.

DESCRIPTION:The ASEAN Think Tanks Summit (ATTS) is an ASEAN-ISIS initiative\, coordinated by the SIIA and supported by the ASEAN Secretariat. The ASEAN-ISIS network comprising one think tank from each ASEAN member state was founded in 1988 and is now a listed ASEAN accredited entity in Annex II of the ASEAN Charter. \nThe ATTS is a platform for prominent think tanks from ASEAN Member States and ASEAN Dialogue and Development Partners to come together to discuss the challenges faced by ASEAN and chart a forward-looking agenda for ASEAN’s development. \nThis year’s ATTS will take inspiration from the Philippine ASEAN Chair’s theme “Navigating Our Future\, Together”. It will feature discussions on key issues with the aim of formulating actionable policy recommendations to ASEAN Member States’ leaders and the ASEAN Secretariat. These issues include Investing in Peace and Dialogue\, Building Regional Energy Resilience\, Mainstreaming Sustainability\, Inclusive AI Adoption among SMEs\, Treaty of Amity (TAC) and Cooperation and ASEAN Centrality\, and Transnational Security Challenges.
