Addressing Job Scammers Impersonating SIIA Staff
[Official Statement]
Singapore, Thursday, 16 May 2024: Addressing Job Scammers Impersonating SIIA Staff
The Singapore Institute of International Affairs (SIIA) has recently identified an increase in fraudulent activities involving individuals impersonating SIIA staff members and offering employment options to targeted individuals. These scammers have employed emails to deceive individuals and organisations.
The SIIA is taking these incidents very seriously and will address and mitigate these fraudulent activities. We urge the public and our members to remain vigilant and take the following precautions:
- Verify Identity: Always verify the identity of anyone claiming to be a representative of SIIA. If you receive an unexpected communication, use the official contact information from our website to confirm the person’s identity.
- Check Email Addresses: Legitimate emails from SIIA staff will come from an @siiaonline.org email address. Be cautious of emails from similar but slightly altered addresses.
- Be Skeptical of Unsolicited Requests: Be wary of unsolicited requests for personal information, payments, or sensitive data. The SIIA will never ask for sensitive information in this manner.
- Report Suspicious Activity: If you suspect you have been contacted by a scammer, report the incident to the SIIA immediately at membership@siiaonline.org. Include any relevant details, such as email addresses, phone numbers, and the content of the communication.
We encourage anyone who has received questionable and dubious communication from someone claiming to be a representative of the SIIA to contact us immediately at membership@siiaonline.org or to reach out to us at +65 6734 9600.
