At the 3rd Singapore Green Dialogue, convened by Singapore Institute of International Affairs, on 3 November 2026, speakers explored how closer cooperation between Singapore, Johor and the Riau Islands could support sustainable growth and provide a model for wider ASEAN cooperation.
Speaking at the dialogue, SIIA Chairman Simon Tay highlighted the importance of managing interdependence well. “The important part of interdependence is growth. If it is managed well, the dynamics of this triangle can be very positive for all partners.”
He added that sustainability must remain central to this cooperation: “But sustainability and environmental issues must also be managed. As the haze shows, interdependence can otherwise turn negative.”
The discussion also examined how the complementary strengths of Singapore, Johor and the Riau Islands could support investment, digital growth, and energy connectivity.
