The European Union, key Asian economies – China, Japan and Korea, – as well as large ASEAN economies such as Indonesia and Malaysia have announced net-zero commitments. The Biden administration also brought the United States back into the Paris Agreement with renewed commitments to global leadership on sustainability.
As we gain momentum globally to mitigate climate change, ASEAN should strengthen its regional collaboration on climate action. In this way, ASEAN member states can strengthen the grouping’s collective voice in global climate negotiations, and build a globally competitive and resilient region.
