Forest fires raged across the world in 2019 as a result of deforestation and drier seasons. Even though there was less burnt land in Indonesia than in the Amazon and Australia, Indonesia produced a larger amount of carbon emissions. This is due to the fact that fires on degraded peatlands release more emissions. Let us take a look at the burnt areas in the Amazon, Australia and Indonesia vis-à-vis the emission levels.
