Datuk Hajiji Noor from the Bersatu party was sworn in as Sabah’s chief minister following the fiercely contested Sabah election, which was seen by many experts as a bellwether for the country’s politics. A record 447 candidates contested for the 73 assembly seats. Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin’s Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) coalition won 38 seats, giving the alliance the simple majority required to form the new state government.

The SIIA will be organising a webinar on the implications of the GRS coalition’s win in Sabah and what it means for Mr. Muhyiddin Yassin’s political position and Malaysian politics going forward. Stay tuned for details.
