Malaysia’s Parliament reopened earlier this week, following a seven-month suspension. At the opening of the session, the government said it would not be extending the state of emergency which is due to end on 1 August 2021. In an interview with the Associated Press, Dr. Ei Sun OH, Senior Fellow at the SIIA, said the disallowing of debate and voting “summarily reduces Parliament to worse than rubber-stamp role.”

The SIIA will be holding a webinar next month to analyse the latest in Malaysian politics. Stay tuned for details.
