This week’s high-level roundtable discussion in the SIIA’s New Horizons series zoomed in on trends and concerns emerging from Indonesia, as the country continues to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic.
Dr. Chatib Basri, Co-founder and Senior Partner, Creco Consulting; and Former Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia, started the session by outlining how the pandemic has impacted the Indonesian economy and considerations for the government going forward, such as the omnibus bill on job creation.
The SIIA convened a roundtable discussion among business leaders, who discussed a range of issues including how reform efforts under the omnibus bill on job creation would spur foreign direct investments and challenges foreign investors face in Indonesia. E-commerce and infrastructure development were highlighted as key sectors to watch out for.
The New Horizons series was started by the SIIA to support the Emerging Stronger Taskforce (EST). As knowledge partner of the EST, the SIIA will convene a series of closed door roundtable dialogue sessions involving business leaders from different industries to examine the future of Singapore’s economy and identify opportunities for growth.
