ASEAN foreign ministers met at an informal virtual meeting on 3 March 2021 for talks with Myanmar’s military representative. In an interview with CNBC, Associate Professor Simon Tay, Chairman of the SIIA said, “A compromised statement was issued but I think these are like all compromise statements will take care of people who are more conservative. But, the unity of the group is important, for the group itself. All nine foreign ministers telling the military representative what they thought and it’s not just the statement, it is the process.”
