In a commentary for The Business Times, SIIA Chairman Mr Simon Tay examines growing unease among ASEAN’s youth and its implications for the region’s economic future.
Despite continued economic growth, younger generations face pressures from uncertain employment, unaffordable housing and the impact of artificial intelligence, with social media further shaping expectations and perceptions of success.
“The bargain is no longer automatic, and in some areas, it is fraying,” Mr Tay writes.
He argues that governments and businesses must create credible pathways for young people to secure better jobs, housing and opportunities for advancement. Restoring confidence among ASEAN’s youth will be important to the region’s long-term prosperity.
