ASEAN leaders gathered in Jakarta, Indonesia, on Saturday, 24 April 2021, in a bid to end the crisis in Myanmar. In an interview with CNBC, Associate Professor Simon Tay, Chairman of the SIIA said, “A critical point that is underscored by all of ASEAN’s leaders and ministers present, that unless the violence stops, there is no path forward. I think, what happened in Jakarta is a good first step, the best arguably, given what is possible but there’s no real reason for celebration at this point. The really hard work begins now and we must continue to monitor situation.”
