As one of President To Lam’s first ASEAN visits under Vietnam’s new government, his trip to Singapore signals Vietnam’s continued commitment to regional engagement. At a time when intensifying major-power rivalry is testing regional stability, stronger intra-ASEAN cooperation is more important than ever.

Reflecting on Vietnam’s development and the evolving bilateral partnership, SIIA Chairman Simon Tay noted: “Vietnam has progressed greatly over the decades and is now a key regional player. Singapore has been a partner on this journey. In a turbulent world Vietnam has consolidated its leadership internally and balanced its relations with key external partners. It seems poised for a new step in development and I hope Singapore can again be a key partner.”
