Mr Nicholas Fang, SIIA’s Director of Security and Global Affairs, was quoted in an article by Lianhe Zaobao on the US midterm elections 2018. Here’s an excerpt of his quotes, translated from Chinese.

Nicholas Fang, Director of Security and Global Affairs at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, an independent think tank, pointed out that although the Democrats now have control of the House, the Republicans have maintained control of the Senate. This is not the absolute disruption to the Trump administration that the Democrats had hoped for. As such, the Trump administration’s broad foreign policy trajectory is likely to remain unchanged.

He said: “The US under President Trump has continued to engage with ASEAN, albeit under different narratives such as the Indo-Pacific Strategy, and for particular aims, for example the North Korea situation.”
