The military takeover in Myanmar yesterday came as a shock to most. In an interview with CNBC, Associate Professor Simon Tay, Chairman of the SIIA, said while the election fraud was a trigger for the takeover, the real reason is that the Tatmadaw feels side-lined. “On their part, a lot of them still see themselves as the national upholder of unity in the country”, Associate Professor Tay added.
