The pandemic has accelerated the adoption of digital technology as work and school move to the virtual realm. The ASEAN digital economy is expected to grow rapidly in the next decade, adding an estimated $1 trillion to the region’s GDP. The ASEAN Digital Masterplan 2025 envisions ASEAN as a “leading digital community and economic bloc” by 2025. However, ASEAN is not a monolithic region and this is exemplified when taking into account the adoption of new technologies required for digital transformation.

The SIIA will be hosting the “Investing in Digital Infrastructure: Narrowing the Digital Divide in ASEAN” webinar on Thursday, 19 August 2021 from 1030 to 1130 AM SGT. Join Dr. Le Quang Lan, Assistant Director, Head of the ICT & Tourism Division, ASEAN Secretariat, and Mr. Andrew Williamson, Vice President and Economic Advisor of Government Affairs, Huawei, for a discussion on how the pandemic has underscored the need to invest in digital infrastructure, the role of the private sector and long-term factors that impact digitalisation in ASEAN.
